Gene Hackman’s daughter speaks out with suspicion

Hollywood icon Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home. Authorities reported no signs of foul play. Their daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hackman, speculated that toxic fumes, possibly carbon monoxide poisoning, may have been the cause.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed their deaths, along with their pet dog, after officers conducted a welfare check. A gas company is assisting in the investigation. Mendoza assured the public that there was no immediate danger to the community.

Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner, was celebrated for his roles in The French Connection, Unforgiven, and as Lex Luthor in Superman. He retired from acting in 2004, stating he no longer wished to continue due to stress and health concerns. After leaving Hollywood, he relocated to New Mexico, where he lived a quieter life with BetsyThe couple was last seen in public in March 2024 during a dinner outing in Santa Fe. Their passing marks the end of an era for Hollywood, as fans and colleagues mourn the loss of a cinematic legend.
