Four Migrants Escape After Democrats Stormed ICE Detention Facility

Four migrants fled from the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, on Thursday evening after an apparent disturbance within the building, a senior Homeland Security official told Fox News.

“Additional law enforcement partners have been brought in to find these escapees, and a BOLO has been disseminated,” the official said.

Immigration attorney Mustafa Cetin reported that the delayed meals caused around 50 prisoners at the private institution to become upset, leading them to pull down a dormitory wall.

“It’s about the food, and some of the detainees were getting aggressive and it turned violent,” Cetin said.

He noted that his client indicated that the wall was “not very strong” and that inmates were hanging bedsheets in what may have been an escape attempt. The customer additionally stated that he smelled gas during the event.

By 6 p.m., dozens of officers from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office and Newark Police were present, according to Rutgers University-Newark professor Whitney Strub, who posted images of the police presence and stated that he and others outside the jail “were all coughing at the same time,” after being exposed to what they believed was “some kind of gas,” NJ.com reported.

At around 9 p.m., a group of demonstrators prevented an SUV from departing an auxiliary gate at Delaney Hall, forcing it to return inside.

PIX11 News reported witnessing the escapees sprinting between Turnpike 78 and Delancey Street.

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka said his office was “concerned about reports of what has transpired at Delaney Hall this evening, ranging from withholding food and poor treatment, to uprising and escaped detainees.”

“This entire situation lacks sufficient oversight of every basic detail — including local zoning laws and fundamental constitutional rights. This is why city officials and our congressional delegation need to be allowed entry to observe and monitor, any why private prisons pose a very real problem to our state and its constitution,” Baraka said in a statement.

“We demand immediate answers and clear communication with the GEO Group and the Department of Homeland Security. We must put an end to this chaos and not allow this operation to continue unchecked,” Baraka added.

The incident occurred just two days after Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., was charged on three federal counts related to a prior visit to Delaney Hall on May 9.

McIver accompanied Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and others on what was characterized as an oversight visit. Baraka was first accused of trespassing, but the charge was eventually withdrawn.

This is the same ICE facility that Democrats tried to storm last month.

Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., faces a federal indictment for allegedly impeding Homeland Security officials outside a Newark immigrant detention center on May 9, in what her attorneys termed political revenge.

The three-count indictment was announced by US Attorney Alina Habba, and it charges McIver with physically hindering federal authorities during the attempted arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka at the Delaney Hall immigration facility.

According to a news release from the Department of Justice, McIver and two other members of Congress were conducting a congressional oversight visit that coincided with an immigration demonstration. When Baraka entered the facility’s guarded section, federal officers instructed him to leave.

When cops attempted to arrest him, McIver allegedly impeded them by wrapping her arms around the mayor and “slammed her forearm” into one officer while seizing another.

The first two offenses each carry a maximum of eight years in jail. The third lasts up to a year.

In a statement on X, Habba said: “While people are free to express their views… they must not do so in a manner that endangers law enforcement.”
