4 US States Under Threat from Hazardous Ice Storm – Warning Details

A strong winter storm moves across four U.S. states, bringing winter weather and travel challenges. The state weather agency advises caution and preparedness.

A powerful winter storm is set to bring dangerous icing, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions to parts of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).The NWS also stated that ice accumulations of up to half an inch, combined with wind gusts of 35 mph, could lead to treacherous roads, widespread power outages, and fallen trees. The warnings cover north-central and western Maryland, northwest Virginia, eastern and panhandle West Virginia, and central and western Pennsylvania, where freezing rain, sleet, and snow will create hazardous conditions.

Officials caution that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, may become slick and impassable, while heavy ice buildup could damage power lines and trees, increasing the risk of outages.Residents are strongly advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Those who must be on the roads should carry emergency supplies, drive cautiously, and allow extra time. Authorities also recommend preparing for possible extended power disruptions by stocking up on essentials.
